The Context
To many people, dirt-dwelling animals are all icky, scary pests. A lack of understanding and exposure creates irrational fears of creatures that are actually vital to the health of our ecosystem.
With an increasingly digital world, the disconnect between younger generations and the natural environment continues to grow.
How can we develop a brand and product line that effectively educates people and connects familiar comforts with the creatures of the soil?
The Proposal
Grubbies are a line of plush toys modeled after detritivores to encourage curiosity and familiarity with these beneficial critters.
The design language incorporates soft and approachable shapes while retaining honesty to the biological forms to promote recognition and fondness towards the real animals. An earthy, pastel color palette introduces more realistic tones found in nature without being too dull or muddy.
